Bij geen beschikbaarheid van azitromycine is claritromycine po 500mg 2dd 7 dagen een alternatief.
Bij co-medicatie denk aan de interacties door clarithromycine. Azithromycine heeft minder interacties.
Bij patiënten met op grond van expositie en/of klinische presentatie een verdenking op Legionella (recent buitenlandbezoek, Legionella epidemie, onvoldoende herstel na 48 uur behandeling met een betalactam antibioticum, atypische presentatie of klinische verdenking om ander redenen) dient een Legionella urineantigeen test te worden verricht. Bij hoge verdenking kan in afwachting van de uitslag eventueel worden gestart met moxifloxacine of ciprofloxacine.
Een pneumokokken urineantigeentest is niet geïndiceerd.
